On our last night of a 10-day tour we'd like to stay close to Shannon Airport to make it easier to get to our morning flight. We'll be traveling from Waterford and heading toward Shannon. Can you suggest a good place to spend the night on that route? I'd like something quiet, with charm, good food is also important at least near by for dinner that evening.

We stayed at Dunaree B&B down the road from Bunratty Castle and 6 miles from the Shannon Airport. Penny O'Connor is the proprietor. Our daughter had an early flight out of Shannon, so Penny offered to make us breakfast quite early in the morning and had done the same for another couple who had an even earlier flight. The breakfast was fantastic and Penny is lovely. We wish we could have stayed at her B&B for more than one night. It is near Bunratty Castle and Bunratty Village so there are places to eat and stores where you can do your last minute shopping. If Bunratty Village is closed Penny can recommend restaurants to you that are near by.

The town of Ennis is also nearby, or there is this standard Radisson hotel near the airport: http://www.parkinn.ie/airporthotel-shannon.

We stayed at Bunratty Castle Hotel (it's not a castle...just near the Bunratty Castle). We requested a quiet room, and we were pleased. It's not expensive, but it is just a basic, clean, decent hotel...nothing grand or especially charming. But it worked for our last night (without a car). There are nice pubs right within very easy walking distance, and it was an easy quick cab ride to the airport for a super early flight out the next a.m. Hotel made the cab arrangements for us.
We visited the Bunratty Castle and Folk Park the afternoon prior, then had dinner at Dirty Nelly's (I think that is the name of the pub) and it was decent. There are some little shops (sweaters, etc.) close by, so you can easily entertain yourself that final day without a vehicle....or it's an easy drive to the airport if you have a rental car.

Did not enjoy the town of Ennis although it is close to Shannon. Twice stayed at Airport Manor B&B, great, clean and can walk to restaurants and only about 2 km from airport, about 100 USD for night for two. You can look up on their website and what you see is exactly what you get. Lovely.

We always stay at the Park Inn located across the parking lot from the airport a 2 minute walk. You could stop and have a meal on your way there which is what we do. The rooms are fine on the cheap side and if you have an early flight the next day it just makes it so much easier. You save money turning your car in the night before as well.
