I usually book the Rick Steve's way by contacting the hotel directly. However on this trip due to late additions to the trip, I am finding that the hotel site lists the place as booked while priceline and booking.com list it as available and will book rooms. Anybody have this experience or problems with booking.com or similar websites? this is for a trip to Ireland and and Scotland in mid May.

We had an opposite issue. For an upcoming France trip, for a couple hotels we looked at, even when there were rooms supposedly available there were no more rooms available on Booking.com. Most of our bookings were through Booking or Expedia. Only two were through the hotel directly.

My niece works in the hotel industry. She says the booking sites are often incorrect and the best way to know if something is available is to call the hotel. When I am dealing with a hotel outside the US, I send an email and always get an answer within 24 hours. Good luck!
