Horseback riding in the Emerald Isle

Planning a "bucket trip" to Ireland for 2 weeks in 2017 and would love to do a bit of horseback riding. So far I'm thinking of going in May, but also considering late September-October (trying to avoid those crowds). I'm used to Western riding, but looks like English is the norm in Ireland. Can post, gallop, trot without having to make a grab for the pommel, so I'm thinking I can transition OK. Since my riding is fairly intermittent, I'm thinking a relatively short trail ride would do (3 hours? 1 is never enough for me at home in New England) to enjoy what looks to be the amazing scenery.

Thinking of Killarney National Forest and perhaps another ride near Galway, where I see a group that does rides in the Connemara area.

Anyone have experience with trail rides in western Ireland? Best times of year?
Thanks for your thoughts! Can't wait to giddy-up!

Hmm I wouldn't aim for October if you want horseback riding.. could be wet, cool and muddy.

I was in Dublin last year in July.. sorry.. we didn't find it that crowded even in height of tourist season .. not compared to places like London, Paris, Rome.. etc..

I think September would be lovely .

Can't help with the horsey stuff, enjoy trip.

Ps .. five days in july.. it rained on 3 of them..

Check out Equitours http://www.equitours.com/horseback-riding-destinations/northern-europe/ireland/ They have great reviews and a couple different ride options, and you could probably just book a daytrip through them as well. I would stay away from the cross country ride as it involves jumping and you may not be comfortable doing that in an English saddle. See if you can get a few lessons in at home before you go using English tack. Or just borrow an English saddle from a friend. Hope you have a great time!
