Horse Racing in Ireland

Hello,
I'm just beginning to plan an itinerary for June of 2019 and would like to take in a horse race. We are open to go anywhere in the country, but want to make sure that we are in the right place on the right day. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You’ll need to do a little research as to which track is holding a meet. Check out http://www.goracing.ie/ for a list of tracks.

Galway is a major meet the end of July. We had a great time there years ago. If you don’t know, races are run counter clockwise, often well over a mile, tracks undulate mostly on grass. Some races are over brush hurtles. The betting system is thru bookies at the track. Great fun!

If you like Irish racing history and Thoroughbreds, go to the Irish National Stud. https://irishnationalstud.ie/

Two major tracks are Leopardstown near Dublin and The Curragh near Kildare. Racing dates are done differently in Ireland versus the U.S.....more sporadic as opposed to running 5-6 days/week for months at a time.

Both courses had some racing days in June and big races coming up soon at the Curragh. You'll have to try and find the racing dates for 2019. I suspect you could contact the courses via the "Contact Us" link on their website.

Major meetings and festivals tend to be held in the same week year in, year out. Lesser meetings can change. Note that on any one day there is most often only one meeting in Ireland but sometimes there are two.

This year's fixtures as a guide are here.
