Holyhead Port- Partial Closure

A sense of deja vu here from this time last year.

Terminal 5 at Holyhead (the Stena Line Terminal for Dublin) is out of use following a berthing incident in very heavy weather on Friday 5 December.

Stena is sharing Terminal 3 with Irish Ferries for the time being. As a result all Stena sailings are retimed, as Terminal 3 can only take one ship at a time.

The damage needs to be assessed before further decisions can be taken.

UPDATE- There has been a second berthing incident this morning at Holyhead, at Terminal 3.

The port is now CLOSED entirely. Traffic will need to be diverted to Liverpool, Fishguard and Pembroke.

If booked please contact your ferry company for further instructions.

thanks Stuart.

Maybe hire a tug when the swell is up and think twice about operating in a storm? Too much groundhog day?

Terminal 3 has now re-opened.

However the ship involved, the Stena Estrid is believed to have been damaged, so has been moved to a lay-by berth. Depending how serious the damage is that may impact Liverpool to Belfast sailings where she was soon due to move to, as cover during scheduled dry docking.
The Stena Nordica has been transferred from the Fishguard to Rosslare route as cover. She has been replaced on the Fishguard route by the Isle of Man Steam Packet ship Ben-my-Chree on charter.
