I am looking for a boat memorial (it has a a statue of a man or child on a sail boat) It is off of Slea Head Drive or the Ring of Kerry. There seems to be an old boat launch there. Does any one know exactly on the map where this is? There might be a marker in Anglo-Irish at the spot. Thank you
Nothing is springing Immediately to mind. Can you remember if it's in a very remote spot or close to a town/village?
There's a statue commemorating St. Brendan near Cahersiveen, but it shows four monks in a boat ... supposedly representing the journey out to the Skelligs and beyond. Might google that to see if it's what you're looking for.
It is a remote spot. About a mile off the main road. Somewhere on the Dingle Peninsula. The statue is small and it has a stone marker that reads, "na lisimis ar maidi le srud".
This might be the one you're talking about but not sure.
Found it, it's at Brandon Creek and commemorates the departure of St Brendan. The inscription reads "Ná ligimís ár maidí le sruth" which roughly means "Don't let go of our oars".
There's a bit about the area on this site: https://dingle-peninsula.ie/us-links/49-blog-from-the-dingle-peninsula/251-st-brendan-the-navigator-s-departure-from-brandon-creek.html
Thanks so much everyone. Brandon Creek on the Dingle Peninsula.
