Help me understand our Irish rail ticket option

We know the date we want to travel, but want some flexibility of taking an earlier or later train if we happen to hit traffic, weather etc.. while driving from Dingle to train station in Kerry (Farranfore). The Semi-flexible ticket option would work for us but then I'm confused with this description:

"Amendments or cancellations can only be made online up to 24 hours before departure if ticket has not been printed, subject to a 20 percent fee. Without changing your booking, you can travel on that day, on the service before or after your booking, subject to availability."

Does 'amendments' includes taking an earlier or later train that specific date?

Also, 'if ticket has not been printed' -- not sure what this means? Should I not print tickets at home and just collect tickets when we get to train station?

I'm hoping those experienced with traveling with Semi-flexible tickets on Irish Rail could help.

Thanks

Amendments means changing your original booking. Your ticket is already valid for the earlier or later trains.

You don't print tickets at home, they have to be collected from a machine at a station. You'll need the confirmation number given when you book the tickets.
