I contacted Denis Ryan about a possible tour of Dingle on August 26 or 27, but unfortunately for us he will be away on holiday. Is there any other local guide people have used who they would recommend?

We went with Denis Ryan so I cannot personally give you a reference but here are a few suggestions.
Ask him if there is a colleague he recommends. If staying at a B&B in the area they may have contacts to recommend, and lastly check out the Trip Advisor reviews of Denis and other Dingle tour guides. You may find one there that appeals to you based on other people's experiences and reviews.

RS recommends Tim Collins from Sciuird Archaeology Tours in the tour book. He even has a segment in the Ireland DVD with Mr. Collins. 2.5 hr minibus tour at 10:30 and 14:00 depending on demand.
Drop by Eileen Collins Kirrary B&B and put your name on a list or call 066/915-1606. Call early, tours fill up.

Pat and Cindy - thank you for your suggestions; I will look into both of them. We are not staying at a B&B, but renting a house in Ballybunion for five nights so I don't know if the proprietor there would be able to recommend anyone in Dingle.
