Heart of Ireland Tour

First I'd like to thank everyone on this forum who offered so many helpful suggestions before our trip. Thanks to you we were much better prepared (though who could expect a hurricane)?

Next I'd like to say that the Rick Steves' "Heart of Ireland" tour was a GREAT experience and surpassed my expectations. Although the tours seem a bit pricey compared to individual travel, about halfway through the tour I realized it was a bargain! We had so many excellent experiences, more than were listed on the itinerary. In addition, the guides were all wonderful and very personable. We also made friends with our tour companions.
We booked B&Bs through Airbnb (another helpful forum suggestion) before and after the tour. These lodgings and the people offering them added to the overall quality of the trip. As chance would have it, we were in Dublin for the hurricane. All the museums, parks, banks and schools closed that day. It was windy and otherwise quiet (much safer than the south and western coasts).

So glad you had a good time. We loved this tour, too. Great guides and a great itinerary. We've had friends who look at RS prices and think they're too expensive, but we feel we get every penny out of them. Plus, as repeat customers, the tour credits start to mount up.

Hi Garrison, glad you enjoyed the tour. We did this one in June 2017 and enjoyed it very much.

It's funny when I talk to people about the RS tours - some think they are too cheap/rustic (carrying your own luggage is completely distasteful to some folks) and others say they're too expensive. For me, the tours are "just right"!

Thanks for your posting. We plan to take this tour next April, also. I just have not signed up, yet. I would love to hear about your Airbnb experience. We also hear the "Oh, I would never take a tour!", "They are too expensive!", and "Aren't they really rustic?" My husband was a convert after our first tour. There are many reasons that make RS tours a good value.

It was a great trip and a fun group of travellers. Hope to welcome you to Dingle and Ireland again soon :)
Delighted you also survived the 'hurricane'...

Garrison,
I went on this tour for the 9/03 - 9/10 tour and had a wonderful time. We experienced wonderful weather for the most part, at least no hurricanes! Enjoyed everything about the group and our guide, Stephen, and all the activities and scenery of Ireland. The people are so friendly and engaging. A trip I will always remember. Hope there wasn't too much damage to the coast and Dublin from the storm. We were very concerned when we heard about it in the news.

I am thinking about the Heart of Ireland Tour for Easter. For reasons I won’t go into I have to fly in and out of Dublin. The problem is, of course, that this tour starts in Ennis which is nowhere near Dublin. I don’t want to drive in Ireland. Any tips on how to get from Dublin to Ennis? I have done internet research and it seems it’s complicated to get between the two cities. Thanks for any information!

I have a question about this tour. When you travel to Dingle town, do you go over Conor Pass?
