My husband and I are getting ready to sign up for the Rick Steves 14-day Best of Ireland trip in 2027. Because of several factors, we cannot travel until July, Aug or Sept. Has the horrible hot weather that has plagued other parts of the Europe and the UK this summer also affected Ireland?
We were in Ireland during the heat wave in June. My stepson was in France at the same time. The heat was unbearable where he was, but for us in Ireland it mostly meant nice, sunny weather. It got to about 80 during the day, which was warmer than you'd want, but not terrible. None of our hotels had A/C, but there was a fan in each room and with the windows open it was quite pleasant at night. There was only one night where it was warm enough that I took the cover off the duvet and just used that as a sheet. The rest were fine.
Also: It was a FANTASTIC tour. You will love it!!
It has affected Ireland but not in the same manner as, say, France. We were in Ireland mid-July. Co. Donegal was unseasonably warm...but that was about 78 degrees and only for a couple of days. Co. Clare was a whopping 84 degrees. Again, only for a couple of days but unseasonably warm temperatures. So, for the locals this was incredibly warm (my son was roasting.) But for the visitors (we came from a very hot Bordeaux) it was super refreshing. Hope this helps!
I was near Cork for a family wedding in June.
It was stifling there and the men were all in full kilt dress! (Scots groom.)
The ceremony was outside in the heat..the staff gave out fans, umbrellas and water bottles as we were getting seated.
The ballroom for dinner was huge, but with high walls of glass and no AC.
We felt so sorry for the waitstaff as at one point it was 33C in there.
We had to keep going out to cool off.
Thankfully, every other part of the hotel/resort had fabulous AC.
Just those three days were very hot, then it was just nice warm summery weather.
a year ago nobody would have predicted last week's weather in UK , France etc.... And even as brick walled houses in english cities were burning down Ireland was still "sunshine and showers". So how can anyone predict what will happen next year? In UK and Ireland 50 miles is a different weather zone at any time.
