Hi, All!
My husband and I are active seniors and we're planning our first trip to Ireland in Sept.-Oct. this year. We want to use public transportation as much as possible so we can both enjoy the views of the countryside. We're thinking about using trains and buses to get to the major areas we want to see and car sharing services such as GoCar for day trips and out of town sightseeing. Has anyone tried this before? We'd really appreciate any helpful tips, suggestions, or insights that more experienced travelers could provide. Thanks!
Have you checked to see that GoCar is available in the areas where you want to use it? I had a similar thought for my trip last year, but I couldn't find a service like that outside Dublin or Belfast. I used a taxi to get to the more remote areas (once booked ahead for a set rate, the other called on the fly).
Hi, G3rryCee!
Thanks for your reply! I've been going by what's on the GoCar.ie/locations/ page, and it looks like there are many locations around the Republic of Ireland. We're planning a "home base" approach to our sightseeing, I'm hoping to identify the home base towns based on the overlap of the trains, buses and GoCar sites. GoCar also says they don't charge extra for taking the car into Northern Ireland (returning it to the original sharing site, of course). Another option I'm considering is Yuko, the Toyota Car Club. They don't seem to have as many locations as GoCar, but the review I read said it's easier to get an automatic from them. Any thoughts?
