family of 4 will be in Ireland for 10 days with last 3 in Donegal. Our flight leaves at 3pm on Monday, Aug 17 from Dublin. My plan was to have a taxi take us to an airport hotel on Sunday evening. My 40 year old daughter has never been to Dublin so it crossed my mind to have the taxi drop us early Sunday afternoon at a centrally located hotel and spend 4 or 5 hours walking around in Dublin. Anyone have thoughts if this would be more trouble than its worth? And then taxi to airport the next morning to arrive by noon. This would be on a Monday morning so if we did this when should we plan to leave from a hotel near TempleBar( for example) in order to arrive by noon? thank you

It’s absolutely doable. And with a 3pm flight, you have plenty of time on Monday morning to get to the airport leisurely. It will take 30-45 minutes from the O’Connell Monument to the airport. I just did this yesterday by bus: took a longer bus route than necessary, but arrived by 10:10 for a 12:40 flight and had about an hour in the lounge before boarding. A taxi would save you 5-10 minutes of walking at the airport over the bus. But a Dublin bus only costs about €2.
I have also taken 2 groups of friends and they really enjoyed Celtic Nights - dinner and show - for the final night after walking around some.
If you stay by the airport, you don’t really have time to do anything with your long wait on Monday. But it might also depend on whether you need Sunday to finish sights in Donegal.

You're taking a taxi from Donegal to Dublin?! Good luck to the person sitting in the middle of the backseat for 3+ hours. I hope they pack light and aren't also holding their bag on their lap. FYI, there is a direct bus to the airport, should you choose to stay out there (I wouldn't). Or you can get a bus (or taxi) to Sligo and take the train directly into the city. I wouldn't stay in or near Temple Bar, though. Too loud. You might not have every choice of accommodation booking a month out.
