I have heard that GPS units in Ireland are not always accurate. The WAZE app has been recommended instead. We have a European TomTom with updated maps that we have successfully used in several European countries. As we will be in Ireland for 3 weeks this summer with access to a car, I want to be sure we don’t end up in a pasture! Anybody with negative experience using a GPS in Ireland?
For the most part it was great but one night way out in a very sparsely populated area we did end up going across a pasture and through the woods on a lane that looked like it hadn't been used in years.!!! It was an experience!
We have a Garmin with international maps and had absolutely no problems using it in Ireland!

I had the same experience in Ireland but this was long before GPS. We were "following" a paper map. It is now one of the highlights we talk about.
Thanks for your replies. We did end up driving on a few bike lanes in The Netherlands but that was pre TomTom. We still laugh about that experience! We’re doing a home exchange in Tipperary and plan to do a fair amount of “exploring”.
The nice thing about your own TomTom is that you’re familiar with how it works. If the Ireland map is updated it’ll be great. We took our own gps unit once and it was worth it. Enjoy!!
