Good base for touring in Ireland

We will be in Dublin at the end of May 2018. We had a great time staying at an agriturismo in Italy as a base and then renting a car to tour the area and would like to do the same in Ireland. Any suggestions for towns/cities/places to stay? Thank you!

A little more information please in order to help you better. How long will you be in Ireland? Which part of Ireland are you interested in seeing? If you're going to be there long enough you might want to consider two different bases to explore different areas of the country.

Good thought! We have approximately one week - not enough time, I know, but for this trip we'd like to stay in the Republic of Ireland. My relatives immigrated to the U.S. from County Cork, so I'd like to see that area. My husband loves Irish Whiskey and Irish beer, so we will need to spend some sampling time. Dingle seems to be a favorite place to experience the west coast. We are in our early 60's and in decent shape, so we'd like some short hikes to balance the beer.

Start in Dublin. 2 nights.

1 day tour Dublin. 2nd Day rent car and see Glendalough and Powerscourt. Next morning leave early and drive to the Rock of Cashel. Tour the Rock then back on the Road to Kinsale. Spend 2 nights. Enjoy Kinsale, the coast, maybe visit Cork and simply explore the surrounding area.

From Kinsale drive to Dingle and spend 3 nights. Hike in Killarney National House, see Muckross House, visit the Gap of Dunloe in between Killarney and Dingle, drive Slea Head ,enjoy a pint at Foxy John's in Dingke.

Last day drive from Dingle back to Dublin and your return flight.

Its such an lovely country with endearing people and simple beauty. Don't be rushed.
