Golf before or after RS Best of Ireland tour ?

Looking for suggestions for either Ennis area or Dublin? Husband will be golfing alone & will need to rent clubs. Any suggestions? How far in advance he needs to book ? We will not have a car. Thank you

I'm not sure what factors would go into deciding whether to play golf before or after your tour, but advance time for booking golf depends entirely on what kind of course hubby wants to play. If it's a high-end course like Portmarnock or K Club, you'll need to plan well in advance - like now, if the trip is in 2024. Otherwise base your decision on the individual course's website and its recommendation.

My husband played Doonbeg but we had a car and he had his own clubs. The nicest course near Ennis is Lahinch which has hosted the Irish Open. About 30 mins from Ennis. It’s a beautiful course on a beautiful setting.

My experience with Lahinch and Trump Doonbeg is that Lahinch is extremely difficult to get onto. Doonbeg much less so, though I ended up canceling my reservation there.

Lahinch is set aside for member play only for, I believe, the entire month of August; it's basically a private course with limited openings for outside play, many of which are set aside for tour groups. Doonbeg, on the other hand, is a golf resort.

Ballybunion would be harder to get to from Ennis, but it's world-class (as is Lahinch). It's usually easier to get onto than Lahinch. But start early if you want to schedule any of these except perhaps Doonbeg, which is a much less renowned golf course.

I would Google for a list of golf courses in the areas you’ll be and read their websites, that’s where you’ll get the most accurate info and if they rent clubs. Won’t matter how good a course is if you can’t play it cuz they don’t rent clubs.

Any ideas near Dublin?

Portmarnock and K Club, both about 1.5 hours from Dublin via bus. Also The Island.
