Golf and Sightseeing with Wives

4 Couples on 10+/- day trip. Guys will play golf 5-6 times (we will figure courses out). Fly in/out Dublin. Travel in late June/July. Ladies will sightsee while we play, we will have 1/2 day to join them when we play golf and there are 2-3 days between rounds when we have all day together. We will have a coach and driver. Interests: scenic areas, churches, castles, history, distilleries, art. Looking to either go to Northern Ireland or Southwest Ireland. Would appreciate any ideas or experiences that might push us one direction or the other.

Do you know which courses you wants to play, and the fees? This may determine your location.

I did a "golf interest" trip to Ireland years ago with my boyfriend ( now ex-boyfriend). We started in Dublin and went clockwise south to Waterford, Cork, Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Tralee, and back to Dublin. The courses I remember checking out were Ballybunion, one near Dingle, and another on the west coast near a town I will have to look up. We did all the castles, pubs, and other things you mention in your wish list, but he did NOT play golf---he decided it was too expensive! And grumbled the whole time, but I enjoyed the trip.

I hope I can find that third course I mentioned. People were riding horses on the beach and Inreally wanted him to play golf so I could go riding. Might that interest your wives?

Appreciate the response. There are numerous course to play whether we go north or west. We cant go wrong there. The cost to play is just what it is. If we go west I suspect that Ballybunion and Lahinch will be on our list. Our decision will not be based on that but which has the most opportunity or diversity for the wives. The answer i am sure is it depends, but just looking for a few ideas of sights/things to do that would help push the decision one way or the other.

We did this in Scotland two years ago and visited scotch distilleries, castles, churches, sheep dog herding demonstration, falconry demonstration, falkirk wheel, etc. We played St Andrews Old/New courses, Nairn and Royal Dornoch. We are going to stay a few more days on this trip and get 5-6 rounds in, but it is not just golf. Hope that helps a little
