Looking for your favorite accommodations with ambiance, your favorite sights to see, and any good restaurant recommendations that are on the casual side. We are a couple in our 50s on our third trip to Ireland, but first time spending time in Galway. Thanks!
Galway isn't really dense with 5-star sights. The old town is nice enough, with a good people-watching square, some street musicians and it's pleasant strolling along its waterways.
Great fish and chips at a place called (ironically) Macdonald's (not the ubiquitous American mega chain).
For accommodations, we loved Petra House B&B. In Rick's book. Get it if you don't already have it.
We loved the Pizza at Dough bros and the pies ( sweet and savoury) at Pie maker.
We stayed at the Connacht and did not enjoy it so I would stay away from that hotel.
We stayed at a nice Airbnb apartment on The Long Walk. The place was called Cúirt Éanna. Right on the river, parking included. A short walk to the Spanish Gate and town. One bedroom, bathroom, full kitchen and small living room. We loved the Galway City Museum. Ate brunch at Ard Bia at Nimmo’s. Near Spanish Gate and City Museum. It was delicious!
