Galway for 3 days in December

I will be travelling in 2 weeks with my 2 daughters (21 and 12) from London to Shannon for last leg of our European visit. Will arrive in Shannon on a Wednesday morning and head back to the US from Shannon Saturday late afternoon. We definitely want to spend most of our time in Galway and surrounding area but wondering if it would be worth a day and/or night in Killarney (recommended). If so, should we go there directly from airport on Wednesday and make our way to Galway on Thursday? Sights along the way? Assuming Christmas is in full swing all over! Great central location to stay in either location also appreciated!

We loved Killarney so I would recommend it. Sights on the way to Galway that we did: Bunratty folk park and castle, Cliffs of Moher, village of Adare.

In Killarney, we rented bikes and biked to Muckross house and farms int he park as well as Torc waterfall. We also went to Kissane farms to take in a sheep hiding and sheering demonstration.

I love Killarney, and spend two nights a month there, but....... no - I wouldn't recommend that add on to your trip! If you wanted a night out of Galway I'd suggest someplace closer - maybe Lahinch or Spanish Point for fantastic sea-side experiences to the South; or Leenane/Leenaun or Killary Harbor (a fjord) towards the North. But there is SO MUCH to do near Galway, with your limited time, why run yourself ragged to go to a place best enjoyed with more time, itself?!
