Galway during the horse races?

My husband and I have a two week trip planned to Ireland. I've relied heavily on the guide in coming up with an itinerary which just so happens to put us in our one night in Galway during the horse races in July.

I was planning to do the trip from Dingle to Galway in one day, as the following day we've planned to take the ferry to Inishmore from Rossaveel and stay the night. My questions are first, can we really make it from Dingle to Galway in the day taking time for the Cliffs of Moher and a drive through the Burren? And second, should we stay in Galway if it's going to be so busy? My husband and I are young and up for adventure but we have just heard the traffic is awful during that time. This option is my first choice!

The other alternative we thought of was to stay the night in Kinvarra (or some other town close by) which affords us slightly more time in County Clare and skips Galway entirely. But then we aren't sure of the early morning trying to make it for the first ferry out of Rossaveel (we could take a later ferry) and don't necessarily want to rely on the ferry out of Doolin.

Many thanks for any and all advice solving this last piece of our itinerary puzzle!!

The Races bring a lot of crowds and partying into Galway. The bars and pubs will be packed, particularly at night, and depending where you are staying, the noise might be something to factor in as people party out on the streets (e.g., I'd steer clear of any hotels in the Eyre Square vicinity).

As for staying in Kinvara and trying to figure out how much time to add on to get to the ferry, I'll say that in normal Monday to Friday "rush hour" traffic conditions just to get from Kinvara to Galway, it can take upwards of 45 minutes to an hour. The Races make rush hour traffic seem relatively light. Give yourself a good 90 minutes lead time just to get beyond Galway to head to the ferry. You are right to not want to rely on the ferry out of Doolin. It often gets cancelled, even in perfectly sunny weather. Maybe consider flying?

Greetings from Ireland!
As a Rick Steves tour-guide I have done this very journey 150 times! I also recommend it to my B&B guests every day because its generally the direction they are taking after check-out.
Dingle to Galway is no problem. Heres how to do it if you value my professional opinion:
9am (or whenever) my guests usually get on the road around this time. 11am. Gourmet coffee stop in idyllic Adare. 11.30 move on and bypass Limerick by taking the toll-tunnel under the Shannon (maybe take a photostop at Bunratty Castle, or just wave at it as you zoom by in the direction of Ennis).
1pm pr so you'll be at the Cliffs (lunch here is occasionally an absolute meat-market with a zillion tourists, so maybe bring a picnic from Adare). 2/2.30pm head on down to the Burren and walk it at Blackhead or the other direction via the Dolmen.
5pm arrive Galway, join in the joviality down on Quay Street, party with us wild Irish and finally realise why the Romans never came here!

If you are young or young-at-heart, you'll probably love Galway city-centre on a night during Race-week, if may think its too intense.

The races traffic next morning will be going the other way, not in the direction of the Aran Islands, I think you'll be fine.

Enjoy it all. Thanks for choosing Ireland

Stephen and Ceidleh, thank you both so much for the advice! Upon reflection, we decided to do the Dingle to Galway trip and stay in Galway that night, partying like the locals do! I really appreciate you both taking the time to help improve the quality of our trip. Many thanks!
