I will be traveling to visit my son in Dublin in late November (Nov. 24 through 30). I will spend the first and last two nights in Dublin and for the remaining three days (over a weekend) am trying to decide between Galway, the Dingle Peninsula or Kilkenny or a combination of the three. I am interested in hearing great Irish music, talking to Irish people and maybe seeing some natural beauty and/or quaint Irish towns. Are any of those three a must see?
Also if I do go the Galway route, I am thinking I would take a train to Galway and rent a car on my way out of Galway and maybe stop at one of the other places on the way back to Dublin.
I really would love to fit in a day trip to Belfast too but realize I can only fit in so much in six days and will just have to plan another trip!
Thanks.
Hello,
I did stop in Galway and spent 2 1/2 days in Dingle, but have not been to Kilkenny.
I vote for Dingle. Small town feel. Wonderful pub and music! I was there in the summer, so I went horseback riding and kayaking. Went to a sheep farm too. They have a really nice music night "show" at the Dingle Music Shop.
Hope this helps,
enjoy your adventure
I think if you want to engage Irish folks you will be better off in Dingle or small town pubs where the people seem more friendly than in the cities like Galway. If the weather is good you can real enjoy Dingle and the Ring of Kerry which isn't too far away. If the weather isn't so hot then Galway may be a better option. Good day trip from Galway via bus to Aran Island ferry, Cliffs of Mohr and the Burren
