Looking for a place to stay in Galway preferably in the city as we will not have a car. I would value a recent recommendation for VRBO or similar accommodation. Thank you!

Have you tried looking on Booking.com yet? It includes apartments, B&Bs and similar lodgings as well as hotels. Reviews are only from people who have stayed in the places they review.
Sidebar: we just watched an episode of Jack Taylor, which takes place in Galway, for the first time tonight. We recorded it off Ovation. I'm sure there are other options for viewing it.

While I was a big fan of VRBO (now Vrbo) for several years, in the last 3 years I’ve used Airbnb for short-term rentals. This included in Ireland in April 2023, but Galway wasn’t part of that trip. By the way, how big a place are you wanting?
From your title, it sounds like a B&B might still be under consideration, and Petra house B&B is where we stayed in Galway in September 2018. Unless I was looking for a place where I could do my own cooking (as is frequently the case anymore), I’d still go with Petra House.

After researching hotels, BnB”s and vacation rentals which were high priced- I realized our schedule coincided with the Galway Races at the end of July! Not interested in horse racing or added crowds so we’ll visit Galway another time. Moving on!
