Galway back to Dublin

Thanks to all the wonderful tips in this travel forum! We will be driving from Galway back to Dublin on a Sunday flying out the next day. Any suggestions, stops along the way or where to stay prior to heading to the airport? Not sure if we want to go back into Dublin city. Flight does not leave until 3pm Monday so we do not need to stay at an airport hotel.

Side note- best trip ever was Rick Steves Italy- Venice, Florence, Rome. Going in March to Ireland, so unfortunately cannot take Rick Steves trip.

You might consider dropping off the car in Galway and taking the very convenient train to Dublin. That's what we did and it worked really well. It was really relaxing after driving for a couple of weeks (even though we enjoy driving there).

Thanks- this is a great idea. Would we be crazy to do this the same day, leave Galway and catch a 3pm flight out of Dublin?

We stopped in at Birr on our way between Galway & Dublin. Walked the town, had lunch, visited the excellent gardens and telescope on the castle grounds (the castle is private , however.)
