We will be in Galway for the Arts Festival July 16 - 20, with theater every night. What day trips would you recommend? We are unlikely to have acar. Thanks for any suggestions.

Popular day tours from Galway are Connemara, Cliffs of Moher, and Aran Islands. You will need to see what time a given tour retunrs to Galway and what time your theater tickets are for a given evening. When I was there in 2018, I did a Connemara day tour that got back in ample time for an evening performance. I visited the Cliffs and an Aran island without a tour later from Doolin, so I can't comment on those. A nearby activity during the day is to take a long walk or a local bus to the Salthill beach and stroll the promenade.
Be sure to check out the Galway fringe festival going on at the same time as well as the official arts festival.
