Will be on Galway for 3 days and wanted to see the Aran island as well as the Cliffs of Moher. It is an all day trip with departing from the docks in Galway and over to the Aran islands for the day and back to Galway by the Cliffs of Moher. We will have about 4 hrs on the island where we are able to rent bikes. Would love to hear from anyone who has taken this tour.
Thank you
I visited Inishmore Island in 1997 and 1999. I stayed over on both visits.
I believe it is an all-day visit mostly because the departure point is from Rossaveel Harbor, not Galway, unless that's changed. Rossaveel is some 20 miles or so north of Galway.
I rented a bicycle on my 1999 visit. I loved it. You'll see the antiquities, like Dun Aengus, and other worthwhile sites. There's an Aran Islands Museum. Look for the Last Parish Before Boston. You'll probably hear some of the Irish language.
This sounds like the tour my daughter did in 2019. She enjoyed it but if you aren't one of the early ones off the boat you may wait a while to get your bike.
I think the real specialness of inishmore shows only with an overnight. Ne need for a tour. Just take the ferry and stay in a hotel or guesthouse. You can book a boat or bus tour up to the Cliffs of Moyer/Burren as its own separate thing.
We did a day tour to Inishmore from Doolin. I believe we had about 5hrs (give or take). The bike rentals were right as you stepped off the dock. We had plenty of time to bike all around the island, visit all of the sites at a leisurely pace, and have lunch at a cute little place right at the harbor. We stayed 2 nights in Doolin to visit the Cliffs of Moher and to do the Aran Islands then headed up to Galway. Any way you chose to go, the Aran Islands are definitely worth it even if just for the day.
