I have shared this with a few but looks like lots of folks are taking advantage of reduced ticket prices for fall get aways.
A few years ago that was us.... blindly driving around Ireland with summer expectations for hours of museums and other venues. Turns out October 1 some tourist attractions go to reduced hours for the winter. Most notably Carrick a Rede bridge was literally taken down for repair, and Ulster Folk Park was closed for the winter. We still talk about that as teetering on the edge of a " Chevy Chase before a closed Wally World " sort of moment. I encourage you to do good research, even on things like ferry schedules and restaurant hours. There is still lots to see and do, and you won't be bothered by crowds!
Thanks for the info. We are going Oct 9-18th. How was the weather when you were there in Oct?
Thanks for the Wally World laugh. I haven't thought about that movie in years!
Susan, it was drizzly at times and at the worst mid 50s. I had short and long sleeved t shirts, one denim shirt, a flleece vest and an unlined fleece overshirt... in a couple of photos i seem to be wearing it all! I also had thin gloves and a fleece muffler that i used over my head if it was drizzling. Of course, in cities it didnt seem so blustery.... and im sure there were times i was down to my shirt sleeves
If you live in New Hampshire....it will be similiar to home
Hello. Thanks for the info. I have been getting together a Northern and n-w Ireland trip from October 13-22, 2017. Do you recommend anyplace to stay that was spectacular?
Tracy
We did a farm stay that wS lovely, plus they had a drving range and: "supper" (hand made pizza) was available.....shall i try to find that for you tonight?
I'm headed to Ireland in October, too- just learned Blasket Island will not be accessible; likely other islands , too. We are going more for music than anything, but really welcome your October insight.
I am happy to not have to navigate crowds. Would love to hear about farm stays and any other recommendations.
I've discovered that my Ireland notes are sadly disorganized, but in my photo album the bed & breakfast appears between an afternoon shopping at the Linen Green shops at dungannon and a Sunday morning at st Patrick's cathedral in Armaugh..... did a word search with those 2 towns "bed & breakfast" and "driving range" and..... I found it!! Hill view Lodge with an Armaugh address. very current trip advisor reviews are still glowing..... there might no longer be pizza available for supper (that's ok, we went into town for a more traditional evening) and its a rural setting but there might not really be livestock other than some water fowl..... anyway, the 2nd floor rooms were lovely and overlooked the driving range and hills, and a room for this October starts at $81 for 2 including breakfast!!! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g186474-d211468-Reviews-Hillview_Lodge-Armagh_County_Armagh_Northern_Ireland.html#photos;geo=186474&detail=211468&ff=32243287&albumViewMode=hero&aggregationId=101&albumid=101&baseMediaId=32243287&thumbnailMinWidth=50&cnt=30&offset=-1&filter=7&autoplay=
