Four days in Ireland

My wife, daughter, and I will be in Ireland in June for four days, part of a longer England/Ireland trip. We'll be flying into Dublin, and I'm thinking we'll use Dublin as a home base, maybe explore the city for two days and then do day trips for the two other days. This seems a better idea to me than renting a car and trying to cram as much of the country in as we can in four days. So I'm looking for suggestions for day trips outside Dublin, and how to do those trips (rent a car? sign up for a tour? Just take a bus or train and explore on our own?). Also open to other ideas for getting the most out of those four days.

Thanks.

With only 4 days to work with I agree that your time would be better spent basing in Dublin and taking day trips from there. There are plenty of tour companies that offer excursions to Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains, Powerscourt, the Hill of Tara and Newgrange. Time and interest permitting, you could also take the train up to Belfast for a day. It's a fascinating and beautiful city, and a visit to the Titanic Museum would be time well spent - it really is world class.

You can take the train to Cork from Dublin
You could also spend a day in Kilkenny. I think there are tours there or a bus.
I think some tours take you to the Rock of Cashel and Blarney Castle (with a quick stop in Cork). I think the tour I'm thinking of is by paddywagon tours.
