Food Cost/ local cab cost

I am planning a trip this fall to the following:

Dublin 3 days
Cork 2 days
Galway 2 days
Belfast 3 days

Can any one tell me the average cost of food for moderate to high dining, and the local cab fare cost in these cities. Working on a budget, just looking for some estimates for these areas.

Thanks

Not necessarily specific to those cities, but we paid around €18 for lunch and €24-27 for dinner (plus drinks - €5 or so for a pint) at various places, in Dublin and around the south and southwest. Most restaurants had an early bird special before 7 PM or so with 2 or 3 courses in the mid-20s.

We didn't use cabs in Dublin or elsewhere but in Dublin look into the Leap Visitor Card. 72 hours of unlimited bus, tram and commuter train transport for €19.50.

I agree with Peter's food prices. We have used cabs a few times in Ireland, but I can't remember prices. Not too high I don't think. Why don't you call the front desk of the hotels where you'll be staying and ask. (Or your B&B hosts.) They will likely have an idea.

Yvonne,
Re: cab fare in Dublin. We paid about 30 euro from the airport on Sunday early evening to our B&B in Ranelagh (suburb south of city center) and $25 euro to the airport on Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. The drive was 20 to 30 minutes.

Our family was there in May 2012 and if I remember correctly we averaged about €12 - 20 per dinner. Only took a cab in Galway and I want to say that was about €5. A pint will run you about €5-6. I personally think the Temple Bar are is a little pricier.

Also there is a Literary Pub Crawl in Dublin that was enjoyable.

We also used Galway Tour Company to go on day trips to Cliffs of Moher & Burren and Connemara & Cong. They picked us up and dropped us off at our B&B.

In Cork we ate at a pub, and I think it was 11 euros per person for our food. In Dublin we also ate in pubs and in the department store restaurants, I think it was Marks and Spencers and we had a great rooftop view of the city.

If you're working on a budget, try to eat a hearty breakfast and a late lunch so you can take advantage of the lunch prices. I noticed that they loved their potatoes, so I'd fill up and use those carbs walking around. Some places have huge portions so you can share a larger dish, while the other person orders a smaller side, like soup, salad or appetizer.

You also can do as the locals do, and get food at the market and make your own picnic, sandwiches, snacks, etc which can keep you full so you don't overindulge at the restaurant.
