Flying London to Dublin then Cork to London

Hello- My family and I are headed to Ireland and London this late Summer. I booked our flights from USA to London and back.
We are flying into London and would like to head to Dublin that day. Do I need to go through customs?

Thanks

You already booked your flights but is there any way to check on modifying those tickets to fly here to London then days later London to Dublin then home? Called open jaw. I know that will be a change fee but sure would save a lot of travel time and if you factor in the cost of flights London to Dublin and back.it might be a wash. Just a thought.

Even if you have a connecting flight to Dublin you would need to go through immigration in London because of the common travel area arrangements, as well as recheck security. You would go through both immigration and customs then in Dublin.
