Hello! I have a question that may sound confusing, so bare with me.
My husband and I are flying round trip from St. Louis, MO to Dublin, Ireland. We chose Ireland because it was significantly more cost effective than flying directly in Switzerland. (We will be spending the majority of our vacation in Switzerland and Italy, but will spend a few days at the end of our vacation in Ireland before we fly home).
So, we will fly from STL to Dublin. Only to immediately get on a Swiss air flight from Dublin to Zürich Switzerland. My question is, will we have to go through the whole security process at the Dublin airport when trying to get to our Swiss plane? Or is there a way around waiting in security for hours since we would have just arrived by plane? Has anyone done anything similar before? I hope that this makes sense. Thank you for any insight.
Good question. I'm doing the same, except heading to Dubrovnik.
I don't have experience with this, yet, but here is some information I've bookmarked: https://www.dublinairport.com/flight-information/connections
It sounds like both of you, OP and BB, are self-connecting. In other words, each of you purchased a ticket to Dublin and then separately tickets to Zurich and for BB, Dubrovnik. You will therefore follow the self-connecting directions outlined in the link provided by BB, which means going through passport control, exiting the secure area, collecting any checked bags, walking to the other terminal, checking in, security, etc.
If either of you are on a single ticket, then you can follow the flight connections facility.
The presence or absence of checked bags may affect your options.
I won't have checked bags, so that will make it a bit easier.
I've flown out of Dublin numerous times and I have never had to "wait in security for hours."
However, since you are self connecting, you will have to go through immigration and then go through security to get to your gate.
as you are self connecting you should leave enough time. If you are late landing and miss the second flight you, not the airline, will carry the can.
We will have checked bags. We booked our round trip STL-Dublin tickets first. And a few months later booked our Swiss air tickets for Dublin-Zurich. Thank you all for your input :)
