During our upcoming trip to Northern Ireland and Scotland, we will be flying from Dublin to Glasgow on Ryanair. We have been to Ireland a couple of times, so I am well aware of the time it takes to go through security and customs leaving the Dublin airport bound for the US. Will the process for travel from Dublin to Scotland be the same -- do we need to arrive 3 hours before the flight to Scotland, or is it a quicker process? Thanks.
Ryanair's website -- probably a good source -- says this:
"What time should I be at the airport?
You should be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Boarding closes 20 minutes prior to departure. Your valid travel document and boarding pass must be produced at the boarding gate.
Passengers arriving late at the boarding gate will not be accepted for travel. For travel on a later flight, you will be required to purchase a new ticket at the applicable fare.
For passengers checking baggage, the Bag Drop desks open two hours prior to the scheduled departure, and the Bag Drop desks close strictly 40 minutes before the scheduled time of departure. Ryanair reserves the right to cancel your reservation and to deny you boarding without refund if you do not comply with these deadlines.
Can I check in at the airport?
No, all passengers are required to check-in online via Manage My Booking. If you fail to present your boarding pass at the airport, you will be charged a boarding pass re-issuing fee of $95 (70 euros)."
Note that this quote does not refer to airport security and I think adding 45 minutes minimum would be wise, plus time to drop off checked luggage.
If you flew to the US in recent years you probably needed time for US border procedures in Dublin. No need for that going east.
2 hours should be plenty of time. Don't forget Ryanair require non-EU passport holders to have their passports/visa documents looked at by check-in staff, regardless of whether they're checking in bags.
