We are planning our trip to Ireland, September 2017. We appreciate any input and advice for an international flight on Labor Day from San Diego to Dublin. Instinct tells me not to fly on Labor Day but to fly out the day before. Thanks for your suggestions.
Your thoughts?
When is "Labor day"?, presumably this is a holiday in San Diego, there is no holiday of this name in Ireland.
For a list of Irish Public Holidays see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland
The only issue would be on departure, unless your arrival date corresponds to an Irish holiday.
Since you are asking about flying out of the US on a particular day, it is perfectly reasonable to refer to a US holiday; pay no attention to Chris F (he likes to jibe posters if they aren't 100% familiar with all thing European).
However, these days, the answer is "you have to check, as there is no longer any formula." It may or may not be cheaper to fly on Labor Day, the day before, the day after, or some other time.
It wasn't any kind of an issue for me this year. I flew Aer Lingus from Chicago, departing at 8:20 p.m.
The ticket price was the same as on the surrounding days. You probably can count on less traffic getting
to the airport since it isn't a "normal" weekday.
We've flown Labour Day weekend more than once but unlike the previous poster know to expect horrible extra traffic if flying on actual Labour Day and less if on the Sunday. Toronto traffic on the last day of a long weekend, or any weekend, is horrendous.
Wouldn't hesitate to book again either day but do take into consideration traffic patterns for your area.
The airport itself wasn't particularly busy.
My concern was flying out of the United States on a holiday. Labor Day in the United States is considered the last major holiday before students return to school. It Usually means major vacation destinations are crowded. I was hoping to avoid crowded airports in San Diego and connecting airports in the U.S. and asking if there was anyone who had flown on Labor Day.
Since we usually travel to Europe in September, we have flown on Labor Day more than once and have found it no more crowded or expensive than other days.
When is "Labor day"?
First Monday in September.
OP: assuming you're working a normal M-F workweek wouldn't it make more sense to fly out on Saturday or Friday?
