Flights between Ireland and Uk

Hello,

We are planning a trip to Ireland and the UK late August. Our idea was to take inexpensive local flights. One from Cork (ORK) to London and then later back from London to Dublin. I have a couple of questions.

  1. Most of the flights that I have been able to check on seem to have a 10kg weight limit for luggage. We are staying for a month and will need to carry all of our luggage with us. Any idea how this would work? Can we pay for more luggage space? Or are the small cheap flights incompatible with carrying all our luggage? Aer Lingus has a flight for 99 euros/person that allows 20kg of luggage but we were hoping for the 20 euro flights.

  2. Does anyone know if these flights need to be booked in advance (like now) or if we can make those decisions once we arrive in Ireland?

  3. Anything else to consider about getting from Ireland to UK and back again?

Thanks

I would just fly open jaw from.US to Ireland then Ryanair to London and home from.London. if you do that be sure to know all the rules especially Easyjet. They are very restrictive. Have. f!own them twice and probably won't again.

You can book extra baggage on both Ryanair and Easyjet, but it will likely cost more than the base fare. You are not going to get hold baggage included for anything like 20 Euros.
The longer you book in advance the cheaper you will get the fares.

The flights are cheap for a reason. There is a very limited luggage allowance and to pay the extra could well be eye wateringly expensive...

Ryanair and EasyJet are both strict on size and weight of luggage (particularly Ryanair) those with slightly heavier and larger bags than they are ticketed for are a healthy revenue stream for them both. So, understand and abide by their terms T&Cs and one will be fine. If you need more luggage weight than the base fare affords you need to add it during the booking process. Do a dummy booking with the weight of luggage you need to see what the all in cost one is looking at. If booked early enough even with extra luggage allowance it could well work out cheaper than Aer Lingus.

Both are LCC and the fares start out cheap and will progressively rise as the departure date approaches and/or the flight fills up.

You can be in the United Kingdom by jumping on a bus or train in Dublin to Belfast Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom something I think alot of Americans fail to realise!!!

Both Aer Lingus & British Airways can sometimes work out cheaper from Ireland than the "low cost" airlines when all the desired extras are taken into account although they too have unbundled items.
