First Ireland trip with 2.5 year old 10 days.

We're traveling to Ireland for the first time in May. Flying from Germany to Ireland and bringing our 2.5 year old with us. She's a super traveler, so we're not worried about that. I'm getting nervous about our Itinerary. I've cut out so much and was bummed that we wouldn't be adding Northern Ireland. But realize it's just too much to do with a toddler. We're flying in and out of Dublin. And driving counterclockwise. We're flying on Aer Lingus and we each get one checked bag. Trying to decide if we should bring just the baby backpack or her stroller. Or both?

Dublin (2 nights) 16-18
- Hop on hop off bus
- Rick Steves Walking Tour

Kinvara (2 nights) 18-20
- Aran Island
- Cliffs of Moher

Dingle (2 nights) 20-22
- Ring of Kerry
- Killarney

Kinsale (2 nights) 22-24
?
?

? some place near the airport 24 & 25th
- Drive to Rock Of Cashel & Kilkenny for dinner on the way to Dublin. As we need to be at the airport by 10:30 am. Haven't made arrangements just yet.

Also has anyone used a babysitter while traveling to some of the smaller locations? We'd love to enjoy a pub experience together and not take turns watching the kiddo :) But wasn't sure how to go about seeking a babysitter for just a night in our B&B.

Any advice, we'll gladly take.

Thank You,
B

Fishy Fishy is a fantastic restaurant in Kinsale. Right in the heart of town. Crab claw soup, crab claw soup...

With two nights in Dingle, our usual plan would be to enjoy that peninsula, not to venture to the Ring of Kerry and Killarney, which are further down our priority list and somewhat redundant.

I have not experienced either babysitting services or a pub night with toddler. In small towns, your B&B owners probably know everyone in town and could give you some babysitting contacts. The Dingle Tourist Office does accept email, and so would most others.

I don't know about what gear you will need, but I do know that making both you and the baby happy is most important! With a car it's a little easier to schlepp stuff. As far as the pubs, if you go early enough most of them seemed to be pretty 'family friendly'. I was only in a few, but each one had at least a few kids. She will probably like the music!

Thank you all for your replies.

We've booked all our B&B's and found a B&B owner who does know of a babysitter that we'll get to meet when we arrive. I believe it's the innkeepers daughter.

Would you say most of the West Coast is stroller friendly? We can bring an easy stroller or a baby backpack. The weather is suppose to be rainy :) when we're there so the stroller is great because she can hid behind the rain guard.

Another question - since we are traveling from Kinvarra to Dingle. Will this take ALL day? They have asked us to check in by 6pm, and I'm a little nervous that we won't be there in time.

Hi, Brandy! My husband and I (we live in the US) are considering a trip to Ireland next summer with our 2 y/o. (She will turn 2 in April 2016). I'm curious to hear how your trip went with a toddler, any advice you have, how your sitter worked out, etc. You mention you were flying from Germany to Ireland, so I guess you didn't likely have any time zone/jet lag issues? We are trying to decide between going to Ireland or a cruise to Alaska/Vancouver. She has already traveled quite a bit and does well with it. The only international she has done is to Caribbean destinations though and has only crossed two time zones. She is a bit finicky with preferring her room, her bed, etc so I'm (mildly) concerned about that. However, she will be older and down to one nap a day by then which we could hopefully plan while driving in the car. Where you happy with your destinations? My husband and I have traveled to Ireland once before. We started in Dublin, headed to Dingle, then headed north and northwest with a few stops before traveling to Belfast to hop on a plane to Scotland (pre-baby of course). I'm trying to get in touch with our previous driver who I know had a younger daughter or two. I am curious as to if his one of them might like to play nanny for a week. I don't know any other way to find one that we might trust. Anyway, I'm rambling now. Any advice would be SO appreciated. Thank you!
