Feedback on Dublin/Killarney itinerary.

I’m taking a quick one week trip to Ireland in mid August and would love some feedback and suggestions. Arrive Dublin 8/13 in the morning. Staying two nights and then taking the train to Killarney on Saturday the 16th. Staying three nights. I was considering a one day trip to the Dingle peninsula, a round of golf at Beaufort Golf Club (I have contacted them), the Falconry walk, and other sites. Returning via train to Dublin on Wednesday 8/20 and flying out on Thursday 8/21 at noon.
I enjoy history, museums, walking, music and pubs. Thank you in advance for your ideas and suggestions.

For such a short trip, you might look at just taking the bus from the airport directly to Killarney and add an overnight in Dingle. Then head back to Dublin for 1-2 nights, depending on what's left of your schedule. A lot of the museums in Dublin required timed entry tickets, which you likely won't be able to get at this late date. If it were me, I would skip Dublin entirely and focus on the SW. At this point, your whole itinerary might be dictated by what accommodation you can find.

For Dublin you might want to consider Killmainham Gaol (must book on line exactly 28 days in advance—they sell out immediately) and the EPIC Museum. Allow a bare minimum of 2 hours for EPIC (longer is better). 14 Henrietta Street is also interesting. There are a number of recommended walking tours, although I haven’t taken them. O’Donohues Pub near St Stephen’s Green will have music and won’t be quite as crazy touristy as the Temple Bar Area.

Killarney National Park is great. You can do a short walk to Torc Waterfall, a slightly longer walk from there to Muckross House and Farms (great open air museum depicting rural life in Ireland from about 1930-1950) and numerous other walks. There’s also various ruins and a boat ride available. Much more to do than is possible in one day! Consider Bricin for dinner (early bird specials until 6:45, reservations a must).

Several of us have experienced cancellations on Dingle day trips. If you can change plans and overnight in Dingle you may have better luck on a tour that originates in Dingle town.

Have fun!
