Hello awesome travelers!
We have only 2.5 days in Ireland and fly into Dublin early on the first day and would like to know which town we could visit and stay in within 2 hours from Dublin by train or bus. We would like to see a castle and experience the countryside and quaintness of Ireland versus just a city so I thought of Kilkenny? Any other suggestions? Should we stay 2 nights outside of Dublin or do one night in country and one night in Dublin? We don't fly out until 3 p.m. on 3rd day. Thank you! I wish we could stay longer!
Trim. Situated on the River Boyne. It’s a town not a village. There’s Trim Castle edifice, Talbot Castle, st Mary’s Abbey. About 2 hours by bus from Dublin.
A second vote for Trim. Everything Claudia said plus some of the best Trad we heard anywhere played by locals for the love of it in a small homey pub on a weeknight.
Thank you both for your feedback! I appreciate it!

We didn't go to Trim so I can't compare it but we loved Kilkenny! We toured the castle, there is a great shopping area and we toured Smithwick's brewery. We had dinner at an Irish Pub called Matt the Miller's and had a great time listening to the Irish music. We only wished we had more time there but it was enough time to know we will go back. Have a wonderful time on your trip! Whatever you decide, you are going to love Ireland!
Kilkenny was lovely, spent two nights there, Cork and Killarney are a little farther but so much to do and see.
another vote for Trim ! Highly recommend the Highfield House, if you can get it.
