Hello:
My partner and I will be in Dingle in mid-July. I'm looking for restaurant recommendations anywhere on the peninsula for his 60th birthday. We love excellent food, not-snobby but good service, and a lack of pretension. A beautiful view would be a plus. Can anyone provide recommendations? Thank you!
You might want to check out the South Pole Inn, founded by Tom Crean, who had participated heroically in early explorations of Antarctica. He was from Annascaul, where the pub is located.
Loved the Stonehouse outside Dingle. Only had lunch but was great food and great view. We're not so fond of the South Pole but that is just our opinion. You can see reviews of Stonehouse on trip advisor probably South Pole as well.
If you really enjoy seafood, Out of the Blue is a great restaurant in Dingle. During our two weeks in Ireland, this stands out as a favorite meal. Not much of a view from what I remember, although I do believe that it is across the street from the shore. It does fit all of your other requirements about service and pretension though. We did make reservations, it is a small restaurant.
+1 for Out of the Blue. Food was very good, and speaking of a lack of pretension...I had ordered the Lemon Posset for dessert; I commented to the waiter how good it was, and asked him how it's made. He waved me into the kitchen, where he let the chef know of my interest. Chef wrote down the ingredients and complete directions, talking me through it. Great food, no pretense.
+2 for Out of the Blue
We failed to book in advance and therefore didn't get into highly regarded Out of the Blue (May 2018). We enjoyed Sheehy's Anchor Down.
Atmosphere, nothing special; but the service and food were excellent.
