Family trip in August-suggestions?

We are a family of 4 (mom, dad, 6 and 9 year old kids), first time overseas together. I (mom) have a pretty good idea of where we want to go, but looking for suggestions. Spending a few days in Dublin on either end. Want to go to Kilkenny, is a day trip to Rock of Cashel and Cahir Castle doable? Or stay in Cashel? Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula? Probably don't have time/patience for both. Spending a few nights in the West, Ennis or Galway? I realize those may not be similar enough to compare, but looking for thoughts.

You can easily do a day trip from Kilkenny to both the Rock of Cashel and Cahir. I haven't done this particular trip, but did drive from Kilkenny to Cahir in about an hour. If you decide it's too much for a day, I'd go with Cashel over Cahir. Cahir made a nice stop on the way to Dingle, but I wouldn't have made it a destination of itself.

I loved Dingle and would go for the Dingle/Slea Head loop over the Ring of Kerry.

There's not a lot in Ennis, I'd choose Galway, but make a scenic drive therough the Burren or the Cliffs of Moher, Bu t that could be a long day if you are coming from Dingle.
