Extra duffle bag

We have a pre-trip stopover in Iceland before our Rick Steves 14 day Ireland tour. In Iceland we need bulky winter clothes and snow hiking boots—which we do not need in Ireland and cannot fit in the small suitcases required for the tour. Can we just store an extra duffle bag with the winter gear in the luggage section of the Rick Steves bus during the tour?

The suitcase size is not "required" for the tour. It's suggested. The buses are full sized with only 25-28 people on them so there is plenty of luggage bay room. It's suggested because some of the hotels may require a walk to get to and you have to manage your own bags.

And yes, you can put something in to "deep storage" so that the driver does not have to off load them at each stop. Some have a dedicated space, some have had a large cardboard container, etc.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks so much! What a big relief! I thought I might have to wear snow boots throughout Ireland! Very good news! Thanks!

Hahaha...oh yes, that would be so very comfortable!!! I can't even imagine getting up the steps to a bus with my Sorels on!

IF your outer layer for Iceland is a waterproof rain jacket that will work well for Ireland as well. Layering a puffy jacket under it for Iceland would probably keep me warm enough but not sure what you are doing if your plans include needing snow boots.

FWIW, I have never taken bulky clothing to Iceland and we have had 4 winter trips. Just layer and you will be fine. That will cut way down on the extra stuff. I can't help with the tour stuff, but know Iceland very well so can help with packing for that if you need. I also always wear my boots as often times those are the only footwear I bring. You don't need winter boots even in winter, just regular hiking boots with good wool socks will work year round.
