I will be sleeping in Galway the night before heading to inishmore and turns out I will have an extra day/night 2 days before. Any suggestions .? I will be traveling by bus from Shannon airport. FYI the hotel in Galway can’t accommodate the extra night
If you care to rent a car head westward along the Connemara Loop (N59). In my experience, it's the prettiest region in Ireland. Clifden at the far western end is a lively town with a number of B&Bs, lots of restaurants and shops and the gateway to the Sky Road, which offers some quite scenic views. The village of Roundstone south of Clifden is likewise lovely and has seaside scenery to boot.
Thanks! Is this an all day drive? Are you familiar with any of the tours offered in the area so we won’t have to rent a car?
There's fairly good bus service to Clifden. You could rent bikes there or you could instead go all the way to Westport and bike the Greenway. If you don't bike, you could ride the bus from Clifden to Connemara Nat. Park and hike a bit. If you don't hike or bike, spend the day in Clifden?
Not knowing what you have seen either before or after your stop in Galway...
There is a HOHO bus which takes you around the city and environs.
Have a look at day trips from Galway. Lally Tours or Galway Tour Company both run day trips from Galway. You can either visit Cliffs of Moher and the Burren OR Connemara with Kylemore Abbey. (Check out details as the itineraries do differ slightly.)
Thanks all for your input
The Connemara Loop (Galway-Clifden-Letterfrack-Leenane-Oughterard-Galway) is about 110 miles. We've only done it by bicycle.
