Express Bus from Dublin to Galway

My husband and I will be traveling from Dublin to Galway via express bus; probably CityLink. Should we purchase tickets in advance to secure a seat or just show up at bus station? Also, if we purchase a ticket for a particular departure time, can it be used for a different departure time?

Why not take a train. We did it from Galway to Dublin.

Train is not express; while CityLink is express. Also, CityLink has bus leaving every hour for 2.5 hour trip. €26 for two seniors.

Just bookmarked City Link for future use. Thanks!

The train journey is around 2.5 hours, much the same as an 'express' bus. Possibly might cost a little more depending on how you book. There are bus services with more stops that take longer. The bus definitely has the advantage if travelling from the airport.

Diana, we have arrived in Galway via CityLink. Did not book on line but should have because when we arrived at pickup location, there was a very long line. Those who had booked on line were boarded first; hence, too many others and some of us were forced to wait an hour for the next bus. The bus we boarded was double decker at 1:45p. The previous bus at 12:45p was not double decker. It was a very comfortable trip to Galway. Fare for two seniors was €24. Would have been €19 had we booked on line.
The day before travel we visited the pickup location to purchase advance tickets and the attendant told us there would be plenty of room for the desired time and just show up the next day. He did not advise us to book online. Also, you pay the driver in cash if you have not booked online. Scout the location in advance and arrive 30 minutes before departure time. Hope this helps you.
