My family is planning to visit Ireland starting 8/22/17 for 12 nights. I heard that during some weeks in the summer the Europeans shut down their factorys to go on their summer holiday. We want to avoid the crowds. Does anyone know what are the dates this year they take their vacations. thanks
Not sure that this shutdown applies to Ireland. I think in many countries ( France, italy, Portugal) there is a August shutdown but not so much in Ireland and the UK. Europeans do get more vacation than most North Americans and many choose to take some of that time in August though
Most that have this shutdown also go south for vacation not North so I don't think that you will find it too crowded. FWIW, we were there in Late July-Early August last year and although it is 'busy' season, it did not feel crowded to us at all.
Crowded to me is NYC at Christmas, Disney during school breaks etc.
