FWIW, flew out of Dublin Airport Tuesday April 28 (after all this had broken in the news). 1:55 PM flight to Philadelphia. Arrived about 10:10 AM, with boarding pass and carry-on only (and noted that AA counter did not look terribly busy). Maybe 20 minutes from entrance to T2 to clearing Dublin Security, then another about an hour to shuffle through US Pre-clearance, including walking time.

Yes I was there Saturday morning for a return flight to Boston and it took 3 hours to get through all the various lines and checkpoints. Arrived at gate at time originally scheduled for departure and boarded. Then waited on plane over 1 hour as so many people delayed. However the flight not officially delayed so a lot of anxiety while waiting in last queue wondering if we would make the flight. The luck of the Irish was with us.

Fair warning for all flying through Dublin Airport. This info shared is the current situation. We were witness to the Meltdown at Dublin airport just yesterday.

On Monday 30 May we arrived at Dublin Airport from Dulles via Aer Lingus. Arrival was scheduled for 5:05 am (but 5:40 arrival due To AL delay) and I had booked a flight for Paris departing Dublin at 8:50 am. I figured we’d still have time to go through customs and security. Because we had paid for a checked bag to go on the Air France flight to Paris, we went to the AF counter area where there were at 100 people in line and it was not moving. Even though the ticket said we could check in at a kiosk there were none around. I checked in online, received a boarding pass, and left the AF line and headed to the security line which probably had 1000 people in it. The whole ordeal was a complete mess. We took our large bag onto the plane without any problem but I was prepared to defend my actions as I had paid for it and there was no way we could have waited in AF line and gotten to Paris same day.

Sounds like the flight I will be on arriving June 19th, but I am terminating at Dublin, getting a rental car, and driving to Galway. So some delay won't be so horrible as places to get breakfast will be open........making lemonade with the lemons.

TXWayne,

You should be fine. It was was the second leg of our journey where the problems occurred. Customs was a breeze for arriving flights. Have fun!

I flew back to California from Dublin airport yesterday. I had allowed 3.5 hours to get through check-in, security and US customs. The entire process took over 2.5 hours. Long queues at every point and had to go through security twice...once for regular security and again prior to going through customs. The custom line alone took over an hour. Our flight departure was delayed by an hour (after we had all boarded) due to having to wait for baggage handlers to be available to load bags onto aircraft. I was very glad that I had allowed a bit over the 3 hour suggested time to arrive at the airport. I was a able to relax (somewhat) even though queues were long and tedious since I felt I had plenty of time. I did see quite a few frazzled passengers who were trying to get to the front of the queues in order to make their flight departure. Allow extra time at Dublin airport...they are short handed but doing their best. Patience is necessary.

Wondering if anyone has advice on if I should make change - we have plan to arrive in Dublin at 10:00, then a separately booked flight from Dublin to Edinburgh is scheduled for 12:30. Will I be able to get through customs and rechecked in to make the flight to scotland? Ryan Air has a flight the same day that leaves a few hours later, wondering if I should make the change just to be safe

To the last poster: I'd switch to the later flight if I were you, or see if there's any way you can book your two flights on one ticket. I don't think 2.5 hours will be nearly enough for what you have to do, if I understand your situation correctly.

I flew out of Dublin on June 10, arrived at Terminal 1 about 6 AM, long lines for bag drop (longer if I hadn't already had boarding pass) and then security. I reached the gate about 3.5 hours later, when boarding was supposed to begin, but the departure was an hour late so not as stressful as it could have been. It wasn't a US-bound flight so I didn't have that additional hurdle (of course I had it at my destination). The airport was full of signs requiring masking, about 5% of travelers were masked.

Flying hasn't been fun in a long time, just a price you pay to get somewhere good and back.

I flew back this past Sunday, June 12. We couldn't sleep so arrived at airport slightly before 7 for a 11:35 flight. Line quickly grew, 45 minutes later as we finished the check in the line was never ending. Our plane too has held close to an hour to allow people on who were tied up in lines.

I did not realize that we had to go through security twice. I just wanted to warn people there were not services once you got by the custom free shopping. We had intended to sit down and have breakfast. This first food service after you get thru Irish security , up on the balcony, was literally out of much food, grab a drink...wiped out. Pastries and such...not one. I ended up getting a tuna fish sandwich for breakfast. At one point later, there was a similar food service which seemed better stocked, but we wanted to get to our gate and thought there would be services there, no. Twenty or more gates and not one food services. Vending machines were even empty.

My understanding is all airports are suffering. They had let people go due to lack of business and all of a sudden large numbers of people were traveling. Not back to normal yet...will we ever be?
