We are visiting Dublin for 2 days in September and interested in learning more about the Irish diaspora. Is EPIC: The Irish Emigration Museum a good use of our short time? Interested in any other recommendations for must see Dublin attractions aside from Trinity College and Book of Kells, which we plan to visit. Thank you!
Several people on our 14 day RS Ireland Tour mentioned that they enjoyed the General Post Office Museum which offers Irish/Dublin history.
If you’re interested in the Irish diaspora, the EPIC Museum is a must. I found the history fascinating and beautifully presented. One big consideration might be time as we spent several hours there. The General Post Office is also interesting and deserving of a visit. There are so many things to see and do in this wonderful city, a short visit will definitely whet your appetite for a return vacation.
EPIC was an interesting museum, definitely worthwhile. You can purchase a combo ticket to see EPIC plus the Jeanie Johnston famine ship, a minute's walk from EPIC. It was fascinating. I think we saw both in about 2.5 hours.
Excellent feedback…thank you all very much!
We visited EPIC, thinking an hour would be enough. We saw about half of it before we had to leave, but the tickets are good for re-entry so we returned the next day for a second hour. Even two hours was barely adequate.
I'd suggest getting an Irish history book for August reading.
I’d consider Kilmainham Gaol far more of a must see than Trinity College, especially since the books will be out of the long library, and it may already be closed for renovation.
We enjoyed EPIC, but Kilmainham Gaol and the Jeannie Johnson are what we still reflect on now. The JJ was incredibly impactful, and that, combined with the Famine memorial right next door, painted a picture we'll never forget.

Thank you all. Your feedback is very helpful as I finalize my plans. I wish I had more time in Dublin to fit it all in! I already know I will be back!
EPIC is a must-visit in my opinion if you have time during a Dublin visit. It is one of the best museums I've ever visited, just my opinion. I also think a visit to the GPO is worthwhile too as we learned so much about the Easter Rising and such that we never knew about.
