Ennis or Limerick as a hub?

DH will be 83 next year, so a rental car is likely moot. My thinking is to head to either Ennis or Limerick via train or bus after landing at DUB and take day trips from there- the Cliffs of Moher is a definite. It would only be for 2 or 3 nights. Galway isn"t an option, because we've explored it and the area north of there extensively by car including a cruise to the Aran Islands.

Looking for pros/cons of having either Ennis or Limerick as a base for day tours, thanks!

I can't compare the two towns, but Limerick was an excellent hub for us last summer for a week touring southern Ireland. Very convenient, and there's stuff to do in Limerick itself.

Decision made, thanks to the above poster and a bit more research on my part! Limerick it is!
Found a tour company, Kennedy and Carr, that offers day trips to both Cliffs of Moher and the Dingle Peninsula. We can catch a bus direct from DUB to Arthur's Quay, which is a pick-up point for tours and a stop for the bus.
Any hotel, b&b suggestions within walking distance (up to a mile) from Arthur's Quay?

I've been to both overnight, and Limerick "feels" like a city while Ennis feels like a town. Both were interesting, but trad music is easier to find in Ennis. Limerick would work better for Dingle. We enjoyed the Cliffs of Moher much more from a 1 hour boat trip from Doolin pier than fighting for parking and the throngs of people topside. We tried the latter a few years ago and fled.
