Ennis as a base at the end of our trip?

In July, we are traveling in Ireland for the first time. For many compelling reasons, we do not want to drive and will rely on public transportation, even though we know there are downsides. Because we fly out of Shannon in the early afternoon, I am wondering if Ennis might be a reasonable base for our last 3 nights/2 days. It looks like it is an easy bus ride to the airport, but would Ennis provide a good position for us to see the Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, and Doolin?

I did see private tour out of Ennis, but it was $$$ and beyond our budget. Grateful for any tips, advice, or suggestions.

My wife and I were in Ennis last week. Nice town with lots of pubs and restaurants. We were on a Rick Steves trip and our trip bus went to/from the cliffs of Moher one afternoon. The Old Ground Hotel was a short walk from the bus/train station. Very elegant hotel, but may be kinda pricy. The Poet's Corner Pub in the hotel was excellent. The hotel cat's name is Ogham.

Have a wonderful trip!
