Economical Ferry Ride from Scotland to Ireland

My sister and I want to take a diversion from our Scotland/Wales adventure in September and spend three days in Dublin, Newgrange, etc. We do have a rental car, but it appears if we take the car with us, it will be pretty pricey. Does anyone know whether it would be wiser to leave the car parked and just ferry over to Ireland and use public transport in Ireland? Otherwise, it looks to be $200 for each of us....thoughts?

Have you checked if you can take the car out of the UK? Let’s assume you can, so up to you if you want to pay the ferry charges. Alternatively fly to Ireland, and hire a car in Ireland.
