Early Morning Transportation to Dublin Airport

Our flight out of Dublin is at 6am, which means I'm planning that we should get there at 4am. We're staying at a hotel in the city center, so about 35 minutes away. Will there be transportation available to get us to the airport at 3:15am? Would it be better to switch our last night to a hotel near the airport? Would appreciate any advice.

When I was there a few years ago, the scheduled buses from center city to the airport ran all night.

We returned home from Dublin today. It took over 3 hours for check in, security, US pre clearance, customs. Our flight was for 11:30. You may have a different experience as your flight is much earlier but just an FYI

Thanks for all the info on transportation running all night. Very helpful to know.

Carolyn, wow 3 hours?? Ugh. I wonder if there's a way to find out how many flights leave as early in the day as ours, to have an idea how crowded it will be. Thanks for that info. Hope you had a great trip!

The hotels looks like they're 3ish miles away from the airport and we'd have to get transportation anyway. So it seems like once you're on it, an additional 30 minutes is less of a hassle than having to change hotels. IDK, though, I'm still thinking through that.

Are you flying back to the US? If so you truly need to allow the three hours to clear US immigration. We have had super great experiences and some that were a nightmare thru Dublin. You just never know.

There are hotels right at the airport, the Maldron for one.

Yes, flying back to the US. Ugh, 3am at the airport then. Boo.

The Maldron is definitely closer than the others I looked at. Thanks, Sam!

Oh, actually, I'm not going direct to the US from Dublin. We go to Frankfurt first.

If flying via Frankfurt, your experience in the Dublin airport will be faster and easier than for those flying directly to the US from DUB. The 3 hour situation is not applicable to your trip.

For two of you (or more) a taxi would be a cost-effective alternative to the airport bus from the city center. The day is going to be a slog no matter how you organize it. Might as well make it easy on yourselves at the beginning by springing for the convenience of the door to door service.

Scudder, thank you! I was just reading more about pre-clearance for the US at Dublin and couldn't figure out if that applies when there is a stop in between. Maybe I should be glad we're heading to Frankfurt first!

Robert, I'm definitely leaning towards taxi. I'm sure the hotel would be able to set that up for us. Last day of a trip I'm willing to pay for that rather than slog all our luggage on a bus at 3am. ;) Thanks!

Does your 6AM flight go to Frankfurt? ( Maybe I should be glad we're heading to Frankfurt first )

If so, you do not do US pre-clearance in Dublin. That is for flights that go directly to the US.
