Early morning Flight from Dublin

At the end of our trip in Ireland, we are planning on turning our rental car in at Galway and taking the train into Dublin the day before our departing flight. Our flight leaves around 9 AM the next day, which is Sunday, so we need to get to the Dublin airport almost three hours before that. Any suggestions on where to stay and how to best get to the airport that early? (We basically need a place to sleep before saying good bye to Ireland!)

Also, any car rental suggestions for picking up the car at the beginning of our trip and heading south out of Dublin, and then dropping it off in Galway?

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express right by the airport the night before our flight. It was no frills but fine for what it was. The hotel had a shuttle to the airport.

We rented from Sixt and had a great experience. We did pick up and drop off at Dublin airport... it is much cheaper to do that then to pick up and drop off in different cities. We just dropped off the night before our flight. Have you considered driving from Galway to Dublin and dropping off the night before your flight?

We stayed at the airport also. Don't remember which hotel but staying at the airport was a no hassle way to go.

We also stayed at the Holiday Inn near the airport. The shuttle easily got us to the airport for our 9:30 am flight.

Kathy we used the airlink 747 bus to go from the airport in Dublin down to our hotel in the Temple Bar area. It cost around 6 euro or so and took around 45 minutes. There were several stops along the way. For the return trip from Temple Bar to the airport I decided to hire a taxi. We too had an early flight and I did not want to get caught up in traffic on the way to our long flight back to the us. The taxi arrived exactly on time and took 35 minutes to drive to the airport. The price of the taxi for my wife and I and that included being picked up at our hotel and dropped off directly at the airport was 35 euro. For me this was a simple way to get to the airport. I don't really see the need for staying near the airport if you have some cash left for the taxi ride.

Hi Kathy
We have just returned from Dublin. We had a 9:40 flight from Dublin to Paris. Rather than stay right in Dublin on our last night (we were returning from Doolin), we stayed at the Premier Inn at the airport. There is a shuttle bus that costs 2E that passes by the hotel about every 15 minutes for the short ride to the airport. The hotel is modern and comfortable. Also, on our date, it was the most inexpensive hotel that I could find in the Dublin area. Plus, it saved a trip on the 747 bus and/or a taxi ride. Furthermore, we were advised by the front desk clerk to drop our car off that night rather than in the morning and I am glad we did for convenience. I picked an airport hotel so that I did not have to drive in Dublin and find parking on our last night. We picked up our car rental at the airport after we had visited Dublin and it was an easy trip out from there and return. Why not just return the car back to the airport on your last night so that you can still have the day to explore from Galway? The airport bus parks in a central area at the airport and it does not stop at the terminals. Leave yourself about a 10 minute walk to either Terminal 1 or 2.

Just returned, yesterday. Basically did same loop. But pu/drop off of rental at Dublin airport. Was cheapest that way, but dropped off night before flight and took Air Coach RT to our room in Dublin for the night. Had looked at HIE @ airport. Price was similar to what I paid for room & Air Coach for 2. But we had the added bonus of 1 last night in Dublin.
