Early March itinerary critique!

Hello! My wife and I are traveling to Ireland next week. While the framework is largely sorted we are debating shaving a day or two off in certain areas to stop in another area. The basic structure is Galway->Killarney then move south to Kinsale, where I need to drop off my wife and continue to Dublin for a return flight. The middle part of Galway to Killarney is where we might consider staying in Dingle before heading to Killarney instead of 3 nights in Galway. Would appreciate any thoughts!

  • Day 1: Fly into Dublin (10a). Walk off jet lag, spend 1 night in Dublin

  • Day 2: 10a train to Galway. Explore Galway

  • Day 3: Early morning car rental (8a). Travel around Connemara. Sleep in Galway

  • Day 4: Maybe explore the sites in County Claire or travel to Dingle? Current plan is sleep in Galway but could be convinced to just travel and stay in Dingle for a night!

  • Day 5: Travel to Killarney -- spend day in the town / the close area. Sleep Killarney

  • Day 6: Ring of Kerry -- Sleep in Killarney, or just make the trip to Kinsale and stay there

  • Day 7: Drop off wife and back to Dublin

  • Day 8: Drop car and fly home

You have a few options on day four:

Option #1: Drive to Rossaveel (23 miles west of Galway), where you can park the car, and take the ferry to one of the three Aran Islands. Return late that afternoon or spend the night (if B&Bs are open in March, that is) and return the next morning. B&Bs and restaurants are few on any of the islands. Option #2: Drive to Doolin, County Clare, with a stop at Burren National Park along the way and spend the night in the village. This early in the season though you may not find any trad in its three pubs. Plenty of B&Bs and several restaurants in the village. It's too early in the season to take the ferry from Doolin to the Aran Islands. Drive to Killarney the next morning.

Option #3: Drive to Dingle. Numerous B&Bs and restaurants.
