Dublin weather in July/August

I am usually in France in June-July, but next year will be touring in Ireland for the last week of July, and attending a course in Dublin for the first 2 weeks of August. Being used to average French summer temperatures, it was something of a shock to check the averages for that time of year in Dublin. And 23 days with rain out of the 30! Is it really so chilly and wet? Scarcely ever going above 20°C? Did they not enjoy the hot summer last year that England & Wales did?

And that is exactly why Ireland is green. I was in Ireland 4-5 years ago for nearly 3 weeks in August and I was lucky to have really good weather - only one day of heavy rain and many sunny or partly sunny days. My tour guide kept telling me to stop commenting on how lucky we were, because I was tempting fate. Even with the lovely summer weather, it was never more than 23-24 degrees (Celsius).

It depends which average weather website you look at as to how many days of rain they estimate ina month. I always try to use the Met Office of the country I am looking at, as these are more accurate. https://www.met.ie/climate/available-data/monthly-data shows the 2018 data.

The west of England and Ireland had a warm summer, but the stronger prevailing wind kept the temperatures down from the much hotter south east region. Late July 2018 was the warmest time.

Ireland, being further west tends to get more rain as the atmosphere over the Atlantic is moist and Ireland is the first land it hits.

A day with rain might mean a five minute shower with sunshine the rest of the time, so don't worry too much about averages.

I use this website to get actual weather conditions by day for the last several years. I think that's a much better indicator that averages which really give you no useful information.
